Russian forces have launched a series of attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and other major cities, resulting in the deaths of three people, including a 12-year-old child, and leaving dozens more wounded, according to Ukrainian officials.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that Thursday’s assaults claimed the lives of a boy and a woman in the capital, while at least 18 people, including medical personnel, sustained injuries. He stated via Telegram, “According to doctors, two people died in the capital – a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman. [Eighteen] city residents have been injured so far. Doctors have hospitalized 11 victims.” Klitschko also confirmed that an air raid warning for Kyiv remains active, urging residents to seek shelter.
In a separate incident, an attack on the central city of Dnipro resulted in one fatality and 10 injuries, as confirmed by Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional administration.
The Russian air raids on Kyiv commenced early Thursday, causing extensive damage across the Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, and Desnyanskyi districts. Debris from the attacks ignited fires in a residential building in Podilskyi, damaged a hotel, and led to the collapse of a home, from which “A child and her mother were rescued from the rubble,” Klitschko noted. In the Obolonskyi district, strikes damaged an office building and set vehicles ablaze, with at least four medics reportedly injured due to repeated shelling. Falling debris also sparked a fire at a two-storey residential building in the Desnyanski district. Online images depicted uncontrolled fires and plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
Elsewhere in Ukraine, a drone strike on the northeastern city of Kharkiv wounded a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man. Concurrently, an attack on the southern port city of Odesa left five people injured, officials reported. There has been no immediate comment from Russia regarding these incidents.
