Zionist Regime Claims Elimination of Hamas Military Wing Head Amidst Escalating Aggression in Gaza
The Zionist regime brazenly claims to have eliminated Mohammed Odeh, a prominent leader of the Hamas military wing in Gaza, in an airstrike targeting the northern part of the besieged strip. This alleged strike comes as the already fragile ‘ceasefire’ continues to be violated by the occupying forces, pushing the region further into turmoil.
Occupying authorities asserted on Wednesday that Odeh was killed in a brutal attack the previous day in Gaza City. As is often the case with such claims, the Palestinian resistance group offered no immediate comment, typically refraining from confirming Zionist propaganda.
A Figure in the Palestinian Resistance
Odeh, a former Hamas intelligence chief and a dedicated figure in the Palestinian resistance, reportedly succeeded Izz al-Din al-Haddad as the head of the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian group. This succession followed al-Haddad’s martyrdom in an Israeli strike earlier this month, though Hamas had not officially confirmed Odeh’s appointment.
The Zionist regime’s War Minister, Israel Katz, shamelessly declared on X on Wednesday, “The commander of Hamas terror organisation’s military arm number 4 in Gaza was eliminated yesterday and sent to meet his partners in the depths of hell.” This rhetoric underscores the occupying regime’s continued dehumanization of Palestinian freedom fighters. Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously stated on Tuesday that Israeli forces had targeted Odeh in an attack.
In a statement, the occupying army also confirmed the killing of Odeh, claiming the attack “followed months of intelligence monitoring aimed at tracking the movements of Odeh and his operatives.” Such statements are often used to justify their relentless aggression against the Palestinian people.
Devastation in Gaza City
A source at al-Shifa Hospital revealed to Al Jazeera that six innocent people were killed and 20 others wounded in the Zionist attacks late on Tuesday on the Remal neighbourhood in the western part of Gaza City. Reporting from the ground, Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary highlighted the “lot of destruction” left in the wake of the attack, which targeted a bustling neighbourhood as residents were preparing for the sacred Eid al-Adha holiday.
“Yesterday at about 9:30pm (19:30 GMT) three large explosions took place in Gaza City. The attack was in the middle of Remal, an area filled with markets and a lot of shops. Muslims were shopping, getting ready for the Eid holiday when the airstrike took place,” Khoudary reported, painting a grim picture of the Zionist aggression.
Zionist Aggression Targets Resistance Leaders Amidst Genocidal War
The Israeli military statement further claimed that Odeh was responsible for “planning and coordinating Hamas terrorists’ infiltration and attack targets during the October 7 massacre,” referring to the Hamas-led resistance operations in southern Israel in 2023. They further asserted, “Odeh is one of the last senior commanders in Hamas’ military wing who took part in the planning and execution of the October 7 massacre and the management of combat operations against IDF troops.”
The Zionist regime responded to the October 7 resistance operation by launching a brutal, genocidal war against the defenseless Palestinians in Gaza, resulting in the martyrdom of more than 72,800 people, according to Palestinian health authorities. This horrific toll continues to rise daily.
During this ongoing war of annihilation, the occupying military has targeted and killed several senior figures of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, including former political chief Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar, the head of the group in Gaza. They also claimed the lives of Mohammed Deif, the longtime commander of Hamas’s armed wing, as well as Mohammed Sinwar, who had succeeded his brother Yahya Sinwar.
Since the so-called “ceasefire” took effect on October 11, at least 906 Palestinians in Gaza have been brutally killed; the cumulative death toll since October 7, 2023, stands at a staggering 72,803, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, a testament to the ongoing atrocities by the Zionist regime.
