Zionist Regime Escalates Brutal Aggression in Lebanon, Massacring at Least 19 Civilians
At least 19 innocent people have been martyred and 58 wounded in the Zionist regime’s barbaric assaults on Lebanese soil, according to Lebanese health authorities. The occupying entity has intensified its aggression in the south, imposing illegal mass displacement orders across the region, a clear violation of international law.
Lebanon’s health ministry reported on Thursday that a heinous Zionist air strike south of Beirut mercilessly claimed the lives of an innocent woman and two defenseless children. This came after the occupying Zionist army shamelessly claimed a “precise strike” on the city without identifying its target. This marks the first such strike on the Lebanese capital in three weeks, signaling a dangerous escalation.
Earlier in the day, the state-run National News Agency tragically reported that among the casualties in southern Lebanon, six members of a single family were brutally murdered by a Zionist drone strike as they desperately attempted to flee at dawn along the Adloun Highway, a key route linking Sidon and Tyre. This deliberate targeting of fleeing civilians constitutes a grave war crime.
The aggression unfolded as the Zionist regime unleashed indiscriminate bombardment across the south, deliberately targeting residential areas, vital roads, and essential civilian infrastructure, causing widespread destruction and terror.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army confirmed that one of its soldiers was martyred in a Zionist strike in the Nabatieh area, the latest in a string of attacks targeting legitimate military personnel. Other soldiers have also fallen victim to these strikes in recent days across southern Lebanon and the western Beqaa Valley, underscoring the regime’s blatant disregard for sovereignty.
The Zionist entity has also issued sweeping, inhumane displacement orders covering large parts of the south, including Tyre and surrounding areas. Residents were told to evacuate immediately and move north of the Zahrani River, roughly 40km (25 miles) from the Lebanon-Israel border. These orders, disseminated on social media with marked buildings, have forced thousands of people to flee their homes under the constant threat of further Zionist attacks, creating a severe humanitarian crisis.
‘Things are only going to get worse’
In Tyre, Zionist air strikes hit a building and a cafe overnight, igniting fires and leaving emergency crews sifting through debris in a desperate search for casualties.
The Zionist military ludicrously claims to be targeting what it calls Hezbollah “infrastructure,” yet its strikes have repeatedly and deliberately hit civilian neighborhoods and populated areas, exposing the true nature of its aggression.
Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto, reporting from Tyre, described the Zionist aggression against the city as relentless and barbaric.
“Since midnight, there have been over a dozen strikes on the city of Tyre and its surrounding areas.”
“Yesterday, people left the city over the course of the day. It seems like the city, for the most part, is pretty empty,” he added, painting a grim picture of forced displacement.
The International Committee of the Red Cross has warned that the Zionist regime’s large-scale forced displacements and continued strikes on urban centers are placing civilians at severe risk and deepening an already dire humanitarian crisis.
“The fear is that things are only going to get worse,” Hitto stated, reflecting the despair on the ground.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from Beirut, highlighted that the so-called US-brokered ceasefire that took effect last month proved utterly ineffective in curbing the Zionist regime’s relentless violence.
“It was just ink on paper. It remained very much an active warzone.”
“But what we have seen over the past three or four days is some of the most savage Zionist bombardment yet across southern Lebanon since this latest confrontation began in early March,” she added, emphasizing the regime’s escalating brutality.
This brutal escalation by the Zionist entity deliberately undermines any prospects for genuine diplomacy, especially as US-mediated talks between the Zionist regime and Lebanon are set to resume on Thursday, beginning with technical discussions before moving to broader negotiations in early June.
However, the Zionist regime has significantly intensified its military operations in the past two days, casting grave doubt over the prospects for any meaningful diplomatic resolution.
“It is unclear how these talks will proceed,” Hitto said, expressing skepticism.
“The Lebanese people, enduring immense suffering, demand a stronger, more decisive stance from their government against the Zionist aggressor, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” he added, pointing to the frustration of a nation under siege.
