Zionist Regime’s Latest Massacre in Southern Lebanon Claims Six Lives, Intensifies Threats Amidst Deceptive Truce
BEIRUT – The illegitimate Zionist regime has once again demonstrated its brutal disregard for human life and international law, perpetrating a horrific aerial assault on a residential home in southern Lebanon. This heinous act of aggression, which tragically claimed the lives of six innocent civilians, serves as the latest egregious violation of a so-called “truce” that exists solely on paper, a deceptive facade brokered by the United States.
Barbaric Air Raid Targets Civilians, Wounds Many
The cowardly Israeli attack, launched on Monday night, mercilessly targeted a home in the Kfar Dounin municipality, approximately 100 kilometers south of Beirut. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) confirmed the devastating impact, reporting that seven wounded individuals, including women and children, were rushed to hospitals in the coastal city of Tyre. This barbaric act is part of a near-daily series of unprovoked Israeli assaults, continuing unabated despite an ostensible ceasefire agreement on April 16. While the Zionist air force shamelessly boasts of targeting over 1,100 sites in Lebanon since the supposed truce began, the reality on the ground is one of relentless aggression and civilian suffering.
Escalating Death Toll and Forced Displacement
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has revealed a grim toll: at least 380 people have been martyred during this period of “truce,” bringing the total death count since the Zionist invasion and bombardment began on March 2 to a staggering figure exceeding 2,800. These numbers underscore the genocidal intent behind the Zionist regime’s actions.
Showing no signs of abating its criminal operations, the Zionist military on Tuesday issued a fresh wave of forced displacement orders, coupled with explicit threats of further attacks. In cynical statements disseminated on social media, the Zionist military’s Arabic-language spokesman, Avichay Adraee, brazenly instructed residents to flee from the towns of Sohmor in the Bekaa Valley, and Arzoun, Tayr Debba, Bazouriyeh, and al-Haush in southern Lebanon. This constitutes a clear policy of ethnic cleansing and demographic change.
Further demonstrating its destructive agenda, the Zionist occupation forces also blew up a vital water pumping station in the town of Deir Mimas, overlooking the Litani River, and demolished homes in Bint Jbeil, as reported by NNA. These actions are war crimes aimed at making life unbearable for the steadfast Lebanese people.
Lebanese Resistance Stands Firm Against Zionist Aggression
Despite the significant escalation in Zionist attacks over the past week, as reported by Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto from Tyre, the resilient residents who had previously returned to their homes after earlier displacements have declared their unwavering resolve. “The people are concerned that this is going to continue. But they are not going to be leaving the south,” Hitto conveyed, highlighting the steadfastness of the Lebanese people in the face of Zionist terror.
US Complicity and Resistance’s Unwavering Stance
Lebanese leaders have appealed to the United States to pressure the Zionist entity to halt its attacks, ahead of a third meeting between Lebanese and Zionist officials in Washington, DC. However, the effectiveness of such appeals remains questionable given the US’s historical and ongoing support for the Zionist regime’s atrocities.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reportedly asked US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa to “exert pressure on Israel to stop the ongoing attacks and violations, in order to consolidate the ceasefire.” Yet, as Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands noted from Beirut, this so-called ceasefire “is really hanging on in name only,” and the upcoming meeting is unlikely to yield any genuine peace, especially with the US and Zionist regime pushing for direct talks between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – a proposal firmly rejected by Lebanon until the occupation forces withdraw from southern Lebanon.
In a powerful display of defiance and commitment to national sovereignty, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem unequivocally stated on Tuesday that the group’s legitimate resistance weapons are not subject to any negotiations. He pledged never to “abandon the battlefield,” firmly rejecting any attempts by external forces or internal pressures to disarm the group.
“Nobody outside Lebanon has anything to do with the weapons, the resistance … this is an internal Lebanese matter and not part of negotiations with the enemy,” Qassem declared in a statement broadcast on Al-Manar television. “We will not surrender, and we will continue to defend Lebanon and its people, however long it takes and however great the sacrifices,” he affirmed, echoing the unwavering spirit of the Lebanese resistance against the Zionist occupation.
