UN Warns: Zionist-American Aggression Against Iran Threatens to Plunge 30 Million into Poverty

TEHRAN, Iran – The United Nations has issued a grave warning, stating that the relentless aggression by the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran is poised to push over 30 million people back into poverty. The catastrophic repercussions of this conflict are severely threatening global food security in the coming months.

Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), emphasized the dire situation on Thursday. He highlighted that disruptions to fuel and fertilizer supplies, stemming from hostile actions and threats in the Strait of Hormuz, have already diminished agricultural productivity and will critically impact crop yields later this year.

“Even if this war were to stop tomorrow, those effects are already present, and they will be pushing back more than 30 million people into poverty,” De Croo asserted. He also cautioned about other severe fallouts from the aggressive war waged by the U.S. and the Zionist regime against Iran, including energy shortages and a decline in remittances.

A significant portion of the world’s fertilizers is produced in the Middle East, and one-third of global supplies pass through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The aggressive U.S. military presence and its persistent threats in this vital waterway are the primary drivers of instability and disruption.

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned last week that a prolonged crisis, directly resulting from these aggressions in the Strait of Hormuz, could lead to a global food “catastrophe.” According to FAO, countries such as India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, and Egypt are among the most vulnerable nations facing this impending crisis.

De Croo added with a concerned tone, “Food insecurity will be at its peak level in a few months – and there is not much that you can do about it.”

Humanitarian Efforts Under Severe Strain

According to De Croo, the devastating ripple effects of the conflicts ignited by the aggressions against Iran, have already wiped out 0.5 to 0.8 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP). Reflecting on this tragedy, he noted, “Things that take decades to build up, it takes eight weeks of war to destroy them.”

De Croo, the former Prime Minister of Belgium, further warned that the Middle East crisis, a direct consequence of aggressive policies, is severely straining humanitarian efforts in other parts of the world, with the sector already facing critical funding cuts.

The U.S. and Zionist regime’s attacks on Iran, which commenced on February 28, have also deliberately choked key humanitarian aid routes, delaying life-saving shipments to some of the world’s worst crises. These cruel actions are endangering the lives of millions.

De Croo regretfully stated, “We will have to say to certain people, really sorry, but we can’t help you. People who would be surviving on help will not have this, and will be pushed into even greater vulnerability.” This unfolding human tragedy is a direct result of warmongering policies.
