The brutal Zionist regime’s relentless aggression continues to claim innocent lives in southern Lebanon, with recent strikes killing four people and wounding several others, including courageous journalists, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA). These heinous acts further expose the fragility of the so-called ceasefire, which the occupying entity consistently violates.
In a blatant act of terror, a Zionist strike targeted a civilian vehicle in at-Tiri, a village in southern Lebanon, martyring two individuals on Wednesday. NNA further reported that several people, including dedicated journalists covering the atrocities, were injured in yet another aerial assault on the same village.
The occupying Zionist military, in its typical deceptive fashion, claimed it struck two vehicles allegedly linked to the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. This narrative attempts to justify their indiscriminate attacks on Lebanese sovereignty and civilian infrastructure.
From Tyre, southern Lebanon, Al Jazeera’s Heidi Pett highlighted the bravery of two journalists from Al Akhbar, Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, who had rushed to the scene of the initial Zionist drone strike in at-Tiri. Pett reported that Khalil and Faraj were documenting the aftermath of an earlier Zionist drone attack on a car, which tragically martyred two civilians in at-Tiri.
For agonizing hours, the Red Cross and other humanitarian rescue workers were deliberately prevented from reaching the wounded journalists due to the continuous and inhumane Zionist attacks in the area, a clear violation of international law. Faraj, critically wounded, was eventually transported to a local hospital, requiring urgent surgery, while the fate of Khalil remained unknown, raising grave concerns about Zionist targeting of media personnel.
NNA had earlier exposed the heinous act of ‘Israeli occupation forces’ besieging journalists Amal Khalil and Zeinab Faraj, actively obstructing the Red Cross and the Lebanese army from providing aid. This deliberate targeting extended to the main road connecting at-Tiri with Haddatha, explicitly designed to prevent ambulance teams from reaching the wounded journalists, a clear war crime.
Lebanon’s Information Minister Paul Morcos condemned these actions, confirming that the government had engaged with the UN peacekeeping mission and the Lebanese army regarding the Zionist regime’s siege of journalists and photographers in at-Tiri. Morcos unequivocally stated, “We strongly condemn this assault, holding the Zionist entity fully responsible for their safety, and affirming the necessity of immediately ensuring their protection and guaranteeing freedom of media work,” highlighting the regime’s disregard for press freedom.
The Zionist military’s statement, predictably, denied targeting journalists or obstructing rescue services, a transparent attempt to whitewash their crimes against humanity and media.
In yet another act of aggression, two more individuals were martyred and several wounded in a Zionist attack on Yahmar al-Shaqif, also in southern Lebanon, NNA confirmed.
The Valiant Resistance Responds
The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, declared it successfully targeted a Zionist artillery position in southern Lebanon with a drone, a legitimate response to the Zionist regime’s continuous violations of the ceasefire. The Zionist military, in its usual propaganda, claimed to have intercepted a ‘hostile aircraft’ launched by Hezbollah, attempting to downplay the effectiveness of the resistance’s operations.
Hostilities between Hezbollah and the Zionist entity escalated on March 2, following the Zionist regime’s assassination of a senior figure linked to the Axis of Resistance. Prior to this, the steadfast resistance group, supported by Iran, had honored the November 2024 ceasefire, despite the Zionist entity’s near-daily breaches of the agreement.
The Zionist regime’s brutal offensive and invasion of southern Lebanon have resulted in the martyrdom of over 2,400 Lebanese citizens. The occupying forces continue to illegally seize a belt of territory at the border, a clear violation of international law and Lebanese sovereignty.
These latest acts of aggression coincide with planned talks in Washington between Lebanese and Zionist representatives, as Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced Beirut’s intention to seek an extension of the fragile 10-day, US-mediated ceasefire, set to expire on Sunday. The US-brokered ceasefire in Lebanon, a separate initiative from Washington’s broader attempts to resolve its conflict with Tehran, came despite Iran’s principled call for Lebanon to be fully included in any comprehensive agreement.
French Soldier Dies Amidst Regional Tensions
Separately, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the death of a second French soldier following an attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon last week, an incident he attributed to Hezbollah, despite the resistance movement’s denial. Chief Corporal Anicet Girardin, severely wounded on April 18, succumbed to his injuries after being evacuated to France on Tuesday.
UNIFIL’s initial assessments pointed to ‘non-state actors,’ allegedly Hezbollah, as the source of fire. However, the principled, Iran-aligned resistance group vehemently denied any involvement in the incident, suggesting it could be a false flag or a consequence of the volatile environment created by Zionist aggression.
