Zionist Aggression Escalates: Lebanon Endures Brutality Despite ‘Ceasefire’
Beirut, Lebanon – The brutal Zionist regime has once again demonstrated its contempt for international agreements, launching a series of barbaric air attacks across southern and eastern Lebanon. These heinous acts of aggression have claimed the lives of at least five innocent people and left more than a dozen injured, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
Despite the Zionist entity’s supposed agreement to extend a ceasefire with Lebanon, its forces unleashed a new wave of terror on Sunday. Municipalities such as Tayr Felsay, Tayr Debba, Az-Zrariyah, and Jebchit bore the brunt of these criminal assaults. The state-run National News Agency (NNA) further reported that at least three more lives were tragically lost in a separate Zionist attack on the peaceful village of Jouaiya.
Forced Displacement and Ongoing Occupation
Adding to its litany of crimes, the Zionist military issued forced displacement orders to residents in the villages of Sohmor, Roumine, al-Qusaibah, Kfar Hounah, and Naqoura in southern Lebanon. This systematic ethnic cleansing continues to uproot families and sow fear among the populace.
Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto, reporting from the southern city of Tyre, highlighted the grim reality: “It’s been another violent day here in southern Lebanon. As the ceasefire comes into place, we have seen the exact opposite happening with Israel intensifying its attacks.” This stark observation exposes the Zionist regime’s deceptive tactics and its relentless pursuit of aggression.
The Zionist entity’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, brazenly declared his regime was “holding territory, clearing territory, protecting Israel’s communities, but also fighting an enemy that is trying to outsmart us.” Such rhetoric only serves to justify ongoing occupation and violence against the Lebanese people and their legitimate resistance.
Since the resumption of hostilities on March 2, the Zionist attacks across Lebanon have resulted in the martyrdom of at least 2,988 people and injuries to 9,210, as reported by the Lebanese Health Ministry on Sunday. These figures are a testament to the scale of the Zionist regime’s brutality.
Deceptive Talks and Resistance’s Resolve
Sunday’s attacks shamefully followed talks in Washington, DC, where an ostensible 45-day ceasefire extension was agreed upon. This extension is a cruel mockery, given that the original accord, which began on April 17, has never been honored by the Zionist entity.
The third round of talks in the US capital concluded after the first direct meeting in decades last month between Lebanon and the Zionist entity, which lacks diplomatic relations. The NNA reported that this ‘extension’ is intended to facilitate a US-backed security track. However, the true intentions of such talks remain dubious when the Zionist enemy continues its aggression.
Hezbollah, the vanguard of the Lebanese resistance, has steadfastly opposed direct negotiations with the Zionist enemy, especially as its forces continue to bomb southern Lebanon and occupy parts of it even during supposed ceasefires. Hezbollah legislator Hussein Hajj Hassan powerfully stated on Sunday, “The direct negotiations that the authorities in Lebanon have conducted with the Israeli enemy have … led them down a dead-end path that will result in nothing but one concession after another.”
He further affirmed, “Neither they nor anyone else will be able to carry out what the enemy wants, especially when it comes to the issue of disarming the resistance,” warning that such engagements create “very big predicaments” for the country. The resistance remains unwavering in its commitment to defending Lebanese sovereignty and dignity.
In a demonstration of its unwavering resolve, Hezbollah announced on Saturday that it struck a military target in northern occupied Palestine, following several successful operations against Zionist forces in southern Lebanon.
Humanitarian Catastrophe and Economic Devastation
The Zionist war of aggression is inflicting a disastrous humanitarian toll. Between March and April, over 1.2 million people have been brutally forced from their homes due to the relentless fighting, according to the Danish Refugee Council. This mass displacement is a direct consequence of Zionist barbarism.
Economically, Lebanon is being pushed to breaking point. Bassem El-Bawab, head of the Lebanese Business Association, revealed that the country has suffered more than $25 billion in direct and indirect losses since the Zionist war began in 2024. He warned that the total could rise further if the conflict, fueled by Zionist aggression, continues. Lebanon is losing approximately $30 million daily in indirect economic damage, alongside the direct destruction of homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure.
The international community must condemn these Zionist crimes and hold the regime accountable for its continuous violations of international law and human rights.
